Character Introduction
“Ne Zha” is a “rebellious superhero” in Chinese mythology, a bit like a combination of Marvel’s Loki and Thor. According to Chinese mythology, he was born in the Shang and Zhou dynasties three thousand years ago. He was a child who was predicted to be “destined to bring disaster” when he was born, but he became a savior through self-selection.
His typical image is riding a wind-fire wheel and holding a fire-tipped spear. He is born with the power to subvert the rules and finally fight against fate to save the people.
Highlights before the movie “Ne Zha Mo tong nao hai”:
- Curse of birth: “Ne Zha” was supposed to be a ball of aura representing justice, but his reincarnation was tampered with as the birth of an evil demon king, and he was feared by the world (similar to Superman’s hidden identity in childhood).
- Rebellious awakening: “Ne Zha” did not hesitate to destroy his body to fight against the Dragon King in order to protect the people of Chentangguan (the rebellious spirit of “fighting against fate” is close to Katniss in “The Hunger Games”).
- Rebirth and Redemption: He was killed by a calamity from heaven, and then his master reshaped his body with a lotus, sublimating him from a “dragon slayer” to a “dragon clan fate rewriter” (similar to Elsa’s self-acceptance in “Frozen”).
